Hononegah varsity football proceeds to next round of playoffs

The Hononegah varsity football team is proceeding onto the next round of playoffs after a 56-12 victory over Rockford Auburn—our second consecutive win against the Knights. At the end of the first quarter, Hononegah was 35-0; by halftime, 56-6. The Indians are now 10-0 overall, and are seeded second in IHSA rankings. We have moved up to 45th place in Illinois, 14th in Division 7A, and second in the Rockford area.

Senior Joe Melcher (#17) scored the first touchdown of the game, one that was certainly deserved. Melcher fought his way into the end zone with three opponents all latched onto him and going for the tackle. Senior Greyson Motter (#35) scored two rushing touchdowns this Saturday and got a 2-point conversion. Northern Iowa commit Isaiah Houi (#7), scored 3 touchdowns and got an interception. Senior Aundre Pilgrim (#8) scored a passing touchdown and had an unassisted sack. We can also recognize senior Preston Ross (#22) who caught the long pass that put Hononegah on Auburn’s 12-yard line for Pilgrim to score in the next play. This game had a few impressive and unexpected plays, including a trick touchdown run by senior quarterback Cole Warren (#2).

Their victory in the first round places Hononegah next against Willowbrook High School on November 4 at 2 p.m. on Kelsey Field. Willowbrook has an 8-2 overall record after they won their last match-up against Yorkville 21-13, and is seeded 15th in the IHSA rankings.
