Hononegah's football season comes to a close
The Hononegah varsity football team’s season has officially come to a close after their final match-up against Batavia. The game ended as a 55-14 loss after an extremely tough fight. It was a sad ending for many of our seniors.
The two touchdowns of the game were score by junior Cole Schmall (#15), and senior Luke Poppe (#5). We had several great tackles by Poppe, Isaiah Houi (#7), Schmall, Joe Melcher (#17), Aundre Pilgrim (#8), Will Roberts (#16), Gabe Kohl (#44), and Michael Floryance (#99). One of Schmall’s epic tackles resulted in his cleat ten yards away!
Quarterback Cole Warren (#2) was the NIC-10 Offensive MVP, leading the football selections with Boylan’s Ryan Starck. He recently committed to UW-Oshkosh to play Division III football in the fall. Houi was also picked for the NIC-10 first team offense and committed to Northern Iowa University earlier this year. Retiring Coach Zimmerman was voted Coach of the Year.
Other all-conference players include seniors Isaak “Chuck” Smith and Drake Broege. First team defensive players were junior Kurt Smith and seniors Pilgrim and Floryance. Greyson Motter and Gabe Kohl received special mentions.
