Hononegah Indians break records, close conference season undefeated
Hononegah’s varsity football team has closed its conference season as undefeated NIC-10 champions. After their 40-12 victory over Rockford Auburn this past Friday, the Indians are 9-0 overall.
The varsity Indians have officially broken the record set in 2013 for most points scored in the regular season; the previous record was 372, and after the game against the Auburn Knights, Hononegah totaled 393 points. This team is also only the 11th team in Hononegah Community High School history to have an undefeated NIC-10 Championship season. We remain ranked at 59th in the state and third in the Rockford area.
Senior Greyson Motter (#35) holds first place in our conference for kickoff yards and third for rushing yards and total points. Junior Kurt Smith (#27) placed 24th in Illinois for point-after-touchdown kicking made. Smith dominates the NIC-10 stat categories, ranking first for field goals made, point-after-touchdown scoring, and total kicking points; he also takes second place for kickoff yards and third for total tackles. Smith leads his team in tackles per game and fumble recoveries.
The football team’s next game is on Saturday, 10/28, at 1 pm against Rockford Auburn. Considering the turnout of our last match-up with the Knights, the Indians are sure to proceed to the next round of playoffs.
